Merry Christmas and happy new year. It's been a tough year with stress about work, immigration, family. This little corner of the internet always gives me joy, hope, and inspiration to work for a better, kinder world.

Hope everyone enjoy the break and start 2026 with energy to keep improving yourself and the world.

Just wanted to say this resonated. Thanks for the kind words, and here’s to 2026!

Thanks for the reminder that Pocket sunset is tomorrow. I did a quick analysis of my data as well via Claude Code: https://blog.kelvin.ma/posts/an-ode-to-pocket-analysis-of-ex...

Awesome! I found this section interesting: https://blog.kelvin.ma/posts/an-ode-to-pocket-analysis-of-ex...

I don't think of HN as a source itself but rather a way to discover sources. So I think my Pocket data reflects sources that I've discovered, but to your point, doesn't represent everything I've read from those sources.

Hello, I'm currently on an H1B waiting on my priority date (I'm Canadian but born in China), my H1B hits the 6 year mark next year. My wife is currently on a TN which expires next year.

Should she switch to H4 EAD under my H1B instead of renewing her TN?

She has not filed a green card application so she probably won't have an issue renewing her TN but if CBP or USCIS connects her to you, questions might be raised about her intent which could undermine her ability to renew her TN. So, yes, an H-4 EAD would be safer (unless the current administration kills this benefit).

We are married so are there steps we can take to decrease the chance of them "connect" her to me? Should we avoid crossing the border together?

I can't comment on that unfortunately.

I'm not aware of plans to force users to download sdk only through Android Studio. You can find download links to the sdk at the bottom of: https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html

disclosure: I work on the Android Studio team.

Egg, meet face.

Yes, but now it's CLI only. It used to have GUI.

Not saying it is forbidden. But everywhere that google used to say "download the android SDK" now says, for no good reason, "download Android Studio".

Why does flutter tells to download android studio, open it, run the sdk downloader, close it forever and move to another IDE?

just a heads up that the bloomberg url is cut off.

Nice catch. We'll fix it above.

We detached this subthread from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14691107 and marked it off-topic.

Thanks - unfortunately the post is too old to edit. Here's the article :) https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-15/top-hat-r...

I saw the post on using AWS to play games too. Used it to play the division for a while. Glad to see a service being built for this.

Signed up and will be trying it out this weekend.
