I love how "population surveillance" was explicitly mentioned as a goal.

If it was about an individual, I think it would be called stalking. Overall I fail to see the difference no matter how many people are involved.

Or Win+Shift+S. I think you need to be on a newer Windows 10 release for it to work.

Still not as smooth as on macOS, but getting there.

I believe Win+Shift+S is only for capturing images, not video.

I'm on the latest Windows 10 and I still only see static image capture options.

I really like(d) Sublime and used it till somewhat recently. If there was semi-public development going on, it wasn't very discoverable.

Just tried the LSP plugin before reading your comment. Wanted to use it for Go development, but it can't even do basic autocomplete or suggestions. Actually, I can't even tell if it's running. The VSCode PLS gets stuck sometimes, but 99+% of the time it works great.

Even so, damn, Sublime Text is fast. I really do wish they catch up in other aspects.

If you don't have autocompletion and suggestions working with LSP and Go it's almost certainly not setup correctly. I use it every day and it's great, the goto method def and preview popups are super slick too.

Which plugins do you use exactly? The last time I tried to set this up, there were multiple options, and I ended up never really figuring it out.

We NEVER wear shoes inside our homes in Macedonia, but going to the gym I was required to bring "indoor shoes/sneakers". Ie. ones that I will use exclusively there or indoor environments. Helps keep the gym cleaner.

I guess what I'm saying is, it's not an American thing, it's a gym thing.

A lot of the newer Apple products are fairly iconic as well: iPhones, iPads, MacBook Pros, and a lot of people consider some of the iMacs such as G3 or G4 to be iconic as well. So there's still contemporary iconic hardware for someone to write their first program on :)

What kind of income are you looking at for an extra month, even with a huge payment like a car (which I don't think people use credit OR debit cards for in Europe)?

I suspect for the vast majority of people it's going to be negligible at best.

In the UK, the biggest advantage of using a credit card for the first £100 of any purchase is that it makes the credit card provider jointly liable with the vendor for any failure in the contract. This is an awesome bit of consumer protection.

I've never tried buying a car with a credit card (though my credit limits are, insanely, high enough that I could).

I would guess it might be seen as a cash advance and charged interest immediately, also not accrue into the loyalty rewards. But I don't really know.

I think this glosses over corruption in Bulgaria[1] and the fact that a lot of people got a Bulgarian passport without actually having any Bulgarian roots.

Not sure this is all that typical. While repair costs can get to a fairly large percentage of the purchase price and thus not making sense in some situations, it's not always the case.

I recently repaired a Sony soundbar system for about 30% of the purchase price, so definitely not "at the cost of replacement". Replaced a phone screen for 10% the cost of a new one etc.

Depends on where the repairs are done.

Today, I'm returning a leased car. I had a small crack in the front bumper (trailer hitch in a parking lot). It isn't one of the new sensor-packed bumpers; just a vanilla one.

It cost $1,000 to repair, because they replaced the entire front bumper, and the paint cost more than the part.

It also had to be done at the dealer, because of the lease requirements. The body shop down the road would have done it for half that. I have since found out that the dealer sends the car to a body shop anyway, and they probably only charged half, so the dealer pocketed the difference.

I am never leasing a vehicle, ever again. This was my first, and last time.

Which brand did you lease? I've leased Toyota's before and had no such restriction. I could go to any auto body shop they just had to use genuine Toyota parts for the repair. With my last lease I had to have the rear bumper replaced Toyota didn't care where I got it done.

It was a Subaru. The lease was very cheap. When I went to the body shop, they were the ones that told me it needed to be done by the dealership.

All in all, it was quite cheap. I probably saved a lot of money, but I don’t like surprises. I’ll gladly pay more, for no surprises.

Here's an article about a recent Mac ransomware, it was on HN a while back.

https://www.wired.com/story/new-mac-ransomware-thiefquest-ev...

But still, a lot less of these stories than for Windows.

Yes, but my question was specifically about a high profile one; so huge company or huge money stolen. This is just 'yes it exists' but nothing was done with it.
