In the mean time, I recommend using something like ProxySQL to route based on schema to shard between multiple instances of MySQL.

InnoDB Cluster includes MySQL Router, but you recommend using ProxySQL?

For this use case, yes. ProxySQL also natively supports Group Replication though so you are free to chose either.
