Critical questions have a tendency to be loaded, one way or another. Yours is (unintentionally, I assume) loaded with the assumption that projects are either hobby/toy projects or "serious" ones. The "ethos" OP alludes to is that this is a severely limiting fallacy and a criticism you should actively ignore.
