A simpler approach to bookmarks (samhh.com)

The author has moved to a flat file small script approach for bookmarks. Each file has a url.

People must have different reasons for bookmarks. Ideally I’d have all my bookmarks have full text search (including being able to log in to paywalls bookmarks or another work around).

Tags and descriptions are pretty important for me as well.

A url [plus title] of a bookmark isn’t enough for me. I might as well not use it.

That’s one frustrating thing with Pocket for me. It’s hard to paste tags or add tags at all to new Pocket url adds.

Author here.

Yeah, I've found myself never really needing that functionality. I use bookmarks principally as time savers and secondarily as ephemeral reminders; I think the habit people have of stacking up bookmarks they'll never come back to, likewise having hundreds of tabs open, is an antipattern.

In rare cases where I've wanted to keep a link for documentative purposes, it's always been more appropriate to keep it alongside that source material, which is typically a markdown file.

All that said, it'd be quite easy to implement tags and descriptions provided you'd be willing to write them yourself (and given how messy some websites' metadata is, I would). You could just grep for what you want.
