Shouldn't fact-checking be decentralized, in a way that we could choose our own fact-checkers and evaluate their long-term reliability on the topics that interest us? I feel like most of the problems of information today is that nobody seems to be able to remember or be responsible for anything that happened 3 days ago, everything just moves too fast and we already onto the next big thing, "the science has changed" stage by that time, with no time to check previous performance.
That reduces to the current state: most people choose "fact" checkers that say "this is the facts!" to stuff the choosers like. New bubble, but now validated by "fact" checking.
Fact checking necessarily is gate keeping. You don't get to choose your facts, they just are.
