Will AI Take Software Engineering Jobs? (semaphoreci.com)

"I think YES", AI is smart enough to help us with content writing, blogs writing, social media post and Ad writing, ordering pizza at noon while we're busy on laptop, booking appointments, writing code in every and any language, automating our homes and offices, controlling planes during flight so pilots could take a quick nap, and helping us with in every part of life. Initially I was thinking that jobs of content writer and support staff is on risk but now Jobs for Software Engineering is on risk too. The one who created the AI now AI is on mission to kick his ass.

I disagree here's why.. "I want a todo app"

Q. How long do you want the text?

Q. Will it support images

Q. Will it have do_by dates and time

Q. Will it have alarms

Q. Can you share todo

Q. Can other add to your todo

Q. Do you have to approve when other add

Q. What happens when you don't approve?

Q. Can others see you todo

Q. Can you group todos

Q. Can you sort todos

Q. How many items can you see at a time

Q. Can you change the layout

Q. How many layouts will the app support.

This is just getting started on a Todo.. And we've not even covered the tech stack.

Yes an AI could write the code. But writing the code isn't all that hard after a few years in. The hard is asking the questions. It's also translating the answers. The hard is picking the stack and architecting based on predictions and experience.

It might happen, but I don't expect PM's or Marketing to be able to "prompt" their way to an app.
