This sort of transform (what I think many people call inverse problems) is quite common in reconstruction problems- that is, where you pass light or other EM through an object, the light scatters, and hits a detector. Not really related but similar situation and I found it funny when I realized it:
The Poynting-Vector (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poynting_vector) indicates the direction of the energy flow of a magnetic field, but it’s named after a physicist called „Poynting“, not because it is „pointing“ somewhere. I thought the „y“ in poynting was a typo when I first read it.
