AI "will do the heavy lifting so you have more time for the creative work you enjoy, or free to enjoy things outside work", was always a lie.

Americans are much more "productive" than we were 50 years ago but we're working as many hours or more. So obviously we're not the ones capturing the benefits from that added productivity.
